Vade-mecums are guide books you carry with you. They have been around forever and are common in Europe for all sorts of things. The Latin term literally means "go with me". Here, Dr. Montgomery invites you to go with him as he explores the literature of food and develops a theology of gastronomy. Along with being a theologian and philosopher, an attorney, a barrister, a French advocate, a teacher, a husband, and many other things, Dr. Montgomery is a lover of fine dining and formally embraces its craft with care.

In the age of the microwave, where food is either fast or frozen and almost always pre-prepared, he wants to introduce us to the glories of fine dining, where we can take joy in all our Father has provided to us beyond the simple requirements of sustenance. With Dr. Montgomery as your guide, you will meet great chefs, and travel across time and space with food as the focus, enjoying the views, flavors and smells (and recipes!) Everything Dr. Montgomery explores takes place in light of faith in a God who is now one of us, who made all the senses, loves variety, knows hospitality, and will culminate all of history in the best of wedding feasts to which every good meal points and of which every great meal participates.

About The Author

John Warwick Montgomery is well known as a theological writer and as an international trial lawyer (the latter creating a historical bond with magistrate Brillat-Savarin). But he is also learned in gastronomy, as this book evidences, drawing on his vast library of rare culinary classics. He was named one of the fifty living members of the French Académie de Gastronomie Brillat-Savarin (chair 41, Bertrand Guégan). He holds the rank of commander in the international culinary society the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs. On the basis of blind taste tests, he has attained the highest level (maître) in the Alsatian wine society, the Confrérie Saint-Étienne. He is also an active member of the Club Prosper Montagné. Professor Montgomery lives in France and England and lectures frequently in the United States.

Dr. Montgomery is the author or editor of more than sixty books in six languages. He holds eleven earned degrees, including a Master of Philosophy in Law from the University of Essex, England, A Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, a Doctorate in Protestant Theology from the University of Strasbourg, France, and a higher doctorate in law (the LL.D.) from Cardiff University, Wales. He is currently the Director of the International Academy of Apologetics, Evangelism and Human Rights held in Strasbourg, France and additionally serves actively as Professor-At-Large for 1517.
